Dora Basaca is a photographer whose passion goes beyond simply taking photos; she captures moments that become stories, memories, and emotions. Her photography career began over 25 years ago when she started working with 35mm cameras and developing images in a lab. What began as a simple hobby, playing with the colors of Arizona’s sunsets, quickly turned into a calling. "I loved playing with the fiery colors in Arizona sunsets and capturing people walking on the street," Dora recalls. Since then, her passion for capturing the beauty in everyday life has only grown.

Throughout her career, Dora has been recognized for her ability to capture the essence of Scottsdale, Arizona, and the people who call it home. "Ten years ago, the city of Scottsdale offered me their home to capture the historic streets, their art, and their community for the covers of renowned magazines." This opportunity marked a milestone in her career and solidified her as one of the most respected photographers in the region. "It truly touches my heart to be so appreciated by the community, knowing that the moments I've captured will live on in the stories of my clients for years to come."

What excites Dora the most about photography is the connection she feels with every person she captures through her lens. “I’m passionate about connecting with the essence of my clients through the heart of my lens, capturing that fleeting moment when their breath and true essence come to life in an image.” This personal connection is what makes her work so unique and powerful. Over the years, Dora has evolved, learning new techniques in the digital age, but always maintaining the essence that makes her special. "It was a difficult transition for me to embrace the digital era and set aside the camera that had been my trusted companion. However, through hands-on courses, I honed my skills and evolved into the photographer I am today."

Dora has also developed meaningful projects, such as "ROSTROS DE BASACA CON UN PROPOSITO," where she organizes portrait events that are sold to raise funds and help those in need in her hometown of San Pedro de la Cueva, Sonora. "These projects allow me to give something back to my community and to those who need it most," says Dora. For her, photography is more than just an image; it is a way to make a positive impact on people's lives.

Due to our admiration and respect for Dora, we are delighted to introduce her as the Editorial Photography Director of Community Icons Magazine. Her experience, artistry, and passion for capturing the essence make her work an invaluable contribution to our mission of inspiring and empowering communities.

Finally, Dora has a clear message for those looking to enter the world of photography: "If you feel that calling for photography, get trained in this beautiful world of color, capture unforgettable images, and create more photography businesses." With her legacy of rescuing black and white photography and her effort to keep printed photography alive, Dora Basaca continues to be a key figure in the artistic photography scene of the community.
