Editor's Note
This issue of Community Icons is both a celebration and a remembrance.
At its core, this journal exists to honor leadership that endures—work that continues to matter long after the moment has passed. Here, we recognize leaders who are actively shaping our communities today—individuals whose work is intentional, principled, and still unfolding. We also pay tribute to those whose lives have come to a close, yet whose influence remains deeply present. Their absence has not diminished their impact; it has clarified it.
Together, these stories remind us that leadership is not confined to a single moment in time. Some Icons continue to build in real time. Others have left behind foundations strong enough to stand on their own. Legacy, I believe, is not about permanence of presence, but permanence of purpose.
What unites every story we share is substance. These are lives marked by intention, by care for others, and by an understanding that influence is something to be carried with reverence. Whether their work is ongoing or remembered, it deserves to be documented with honesty and respect.
Each Icon featured represents a thread in a larger story—builders, visionaries, stewards, and mentors whose impact cannot be confined to timelines or titles. Some are still writing their chapters. Others have completed theirs, leaving behind principles and examples that continue to guide what comes next.
At Community Icons, we believe storytelling is an act of preservation. This digital space allows us to reflect more deeply, to hold these stories a little longer, and to honor the responsibility that comes with remembering well.
As Editor, I am honored to help preserve these stories. This issue is an invitation to reflect, to be inspired, and to recognize that the truest measure of leadership is the good that remains.
